In a significant victory for local security efforts in Delta State, a notorious bandit, Abubakar Usman, has been captured following a high-stakes rescue operation in the Ogwashi-Uku/Adonta Forest.
The arrest, confirmed early Wednesday, marks a critical blow to criminal syndicates that have long terrorized communities across the state, including Igbodo and Umunede.

Operation Details
The operation was initiated following the abduction of Mrs. Blessing Chiedu, a native of Umunede Kingdom, who was kidnapped on July 2, 2026, along the Ani-Ifekide Farm Road in Ubulu-Uku. Her captors had initially demanded a ransom of N100 million for her release.
Upon receiving the report, the SafeCity Security Service collaborated with the Delta State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad, led by CSP Osakpolor. Using advanced surveillance technology, the joint team successfully located Mrs. Chiedu and rescued her unharmed along the Ubulu-Unor/Ashama Road.
Following the rescue, the task force launched a decisive manhunt, tracking the remaining members of the kidnapping gang to their hideout in the dense forests bordering Ogwashi-Uku and Adonta. A fierce gun battle ensued between the security operatives and the armed group. While several other gang members managed to flee into the forest with their weapons, security forces successfully apprehended Abubakar Usman, a high-value target known for his central role in multiple kidnapping operations.
History of Criminal Activity
Investigations into the suspect’s background reveal a long trail of criminal activity. Usman and his associates have been linked to a series of violent abductions and extortion schemes across the Igbodo and Umunede regions. Law enforcement officials have expressed relief at the capture, citing the suspect as a primary architect behind the wave of insecurity that has plagued these communities.

This arrest follows recent national concerns raised by the Senate regarding the worsening security situation across Nigeria, particularly regarding the abduction of high-profile individuals and the failure of some “repentant” criminal programs to curb banditry.
