His Excellency Hammed Rashid Tunde Ali, popularly known in corporate circles as HRT Ali, has been serving as Ghana’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Arab Emirates since his formal assumption of duties in 2025. A distinguished maritime consultant, logistician, gaming expert, maritime security specialist and diplomat of Yoruba-Ghanaian heritage, he brings decades of private-sector leadership and public service to the role of strengthening bilateral relations between Accra and Abu Dhabi.

President John Dramani Mahama commissioned Ali among 18 new envoys in early September 2025 as part of a broader drive for results-oriented diplomacy under the Resetting Ghana Agenda. Ali presented a copy of his credentials to UAE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Omar Obaid Alhesan Alshamsi on 25 September 2025 and formally presented full credentials to UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi on 1 December 2025. He has since pursued an energetic programme of economic, educational and community engagement.
Born into a shipping family in the port city of Tema, Ali began his career at Intercotra Ghana Limited, the firm founded by his father, Alhaji Rashid Hammed Ali. He went on to hold senior positions with major international groups including Maersk Line, Bolloré (SDV), CMA CGM (Delmas) and DHL Global Forwarding, rising to country general manager roles. A founding and supervisory council member of the Ghana Chamber of Shipping, he later served as Chief Executive Officer of PSC Tema Shipyard and Drydock—Africa’s largest facility of its kind—where he oversaw extensive retooling, corporate governance reforms and operational turnaround of a previously dilapidated asset.
In public service he sat on the governing board of the National Lottery Authority and chaired the Gaming Commission of Ghana. He also served on the board of the Design & Technology Institute in Accra, mentoring students in technical and vocational education and training (TVET). His academic foundation includes maritime studies at Central London College (now College of Central London), complemented by lifelong professional development with certifications in national security, diplomacy and alternative dispute resolution, plus executive programmes including Harvard Business School marketing studies and a postgraduate diploma in port senior management.
Since taking up his post, Ambassador Ali has focused on practical economic diplomacy. He has engaged the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Etihad Rail, free-zone authorities and Emirati investors on opportunities in mining technology, security printing, medical tourism, infrastructure and railways aligned with Ghana’s development priorities. He has advanced educational cooperation through meetings with the UAE Ministry of Education and the Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ACTVET), exploring scholarships, student exchanges, teacher assessment frameworks using artificial intelligence, and TVET partnerships that support Sustainable Development Goal 4. He has also prioritised the welfare of the Ghanaian community in the UAE, holding discussions with the Ghanaian Association in the UAE (GHASCAD) on registration, labour mobility and social-security contributions, and coordinating closely with the Consulate-General in Dubai.
Ali has represented Ghana in the Africa Group of Ambassadors in the UAE, participated in strategic forums such as the Abu Dhabi Strategic Debate, and publicly celebrated Ghanaian achievements abroad, including the nation’s medal haul at the 2026 World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Dubai. Officials on both sides describe the bilateral relationship as longstanding and mutually beneficial; Ali’s tenure is widely seen as an opportunity to translate that foundation into concrete investment, skills transfer and people-to-people links.
With a track record that bridges Ghana’s maritime and industrial heartlands and the dynamic Gulf economy, Ambassador Hammed Rashid Tunde Ali continues to position the Ghana Embassy in Abu Dhabi as an active platform for results-driven diplomacy.
