Authorities have identified Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old teacher and video game developer from Southern California, as the suspect in the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, according to CNN.
Allen, who lives in Torrance, near Los Angeles, was reportedly subdued by law enforcement close to the venue where Donald Trump and other top officials were present.
Records show he worked part-time at C2 Education, where he was named “teacher of the month” in December 2024.
His LinkedIn profile indicates he earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from California Institute of Technology in 2017, and later obtained a master’s degree in computer science from California State University, Dominguez Hills.
During his undergraduate years, he was featured in a 2017 local news report for designing a prototype emergency brake for wheelchairs.
Allen also identified himself as a video game developer and is believed to have released an independent game titled “Bohrdom” on the Steam platform. He reportedly registered a trademark for the game in 2018 and was said to be working on another project with the tentative title “First Law.”
Data from the Federal Election Commission show that he donated $25 to the 2024 presidential campaign of Kamala Harris.
Officials said the suspect was armed with multiple weapons and was arrested after breaching a security checkpoint at the event, held at the Washington Hilton.
The incident triggered panic at the high-profile gathering, leading to the evacuation of Trump, the First Lady, and other dignitaries.
One Secret Service agent was injured after being struck by gunfire but survived, as the bullet was stopped by a protective vest.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and a motive has not yet been established.
