The Special Assistant on New Media to Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, Damilare Oloyede, has explained that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State adopted the senator as its consensus governorship choice to preserve unity and prevent internal conflict ahead of the 2027 elections.
Oloyede said the collective endorsement of Adeola, who represents Ogun West Senatorial District, was a strategic move to strengthen party cohesion and avoid distractions that could arise from internal contests.
In an interview, he noted that the decision has helped stabilise the party and reinforce its structure as it prepares for the polls.
“Consensus helps to avoid crises. Instead of expending energy on internal struggles, the party has focused on building strength. Rather than engaging in unnecessary rivalry, it chose the most suitable candidate,” he said.
He added that although Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, is yet to formally declare his ambition, the wave of endorsements reflects strong confidence in his potential candidacy.
Oloyede also said the move aligns with efforts to sustain the policies of Dapo Abiodun, noting that the current administration has laid a solid foundation that requires continuity.
According to him, the APC is determined to build on the achievements recorded under Abiodun’s “Building Our Future Together” agenda while positioning itself for electoral success.
He further dismissed the chances of opposition parties, insisting that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) lack the unity and grassroots presence needed to effectively challenge the APC in Ogun State.
