ABEOKUTA, Ogun State — The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has partnered with the National Universities Commission (NUC), the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), and GETrust to strengthen entrepreneurship education through a three-day capacity-building programme for its academic staff.
The training, tagged “Teaching Entrepreneurship Using Effectuation,” is scheduled to hold from Monday, September 14 to Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies (CENTS) Auditorium, between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. daily.
The programme was organised to equip academic staff with contemporary approaches and practical tools for teaching entrepreneurship, particularly the effectuation approach, which emphasises entrepreneurial decision-making, innovation and the effective utilisation of available resources in uncertain environments.
The programme will be facilitated by Dr. Abubakar Adamu of the Department of Business Administration, University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), and Dr. Bola Jenyo of the Department of General Studies (Entrepreneurship Unit), Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun.
The Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, is expected to declare the training programme open on Monday, September 14, 2026.
The programme forms part of ongoing efforts by the NUC to reposition entrepreneurship education in Nigerian universities from a predominantly theoretical discipline to a practical, innovation-driven and solution-oriented field capable of producing job creators rather than job seekers.
FUNAAB has been at the forefront of this reform. In September 2025, the university announced plans to institutionalise the Inspire-Create-Start-Scale (ICSS) entrepreneurship modules into its curriculum to strengthen enterprise development and innovation.
Earlier in 2026, it commenced a three-day orientation programme for its 2026/2027 First Year Programme (FPY) students, reinforcing its commitment to holistic education.
The effectuation approach, which the training will focus on, is based on five core principles: Bird in Hand (starting with available means), Affordable Loss (focusing on what one can afford to lose rather than expected returns), Lemonade (leveraging surprises), Patchwork Quilt (building partnerships) and Pilot in the Plane (focusing on what can be controlled rather than predicting the unpredictable).
