LAGOS — Deep shock and mourning have enveloped the Oke Egan community in the Ilogbo-Eremi area of Badagry, Lagos State, following the gruesome murder of a sexagenarian woman, Victoria Adegoke.
The lifeless body of the grandmother, believed to be between 65 and 68 years old, was discovered abandoned in a nearby bush on Friday morning. Community sources indicate that the victim was ambushed, stripped naked, sexually assaulted, and strangled by unknown assailants.
The Fatal Ambush
According to local residents, Madam Adegoke had been away from home for a few days to attend a spiritual programme at The Joy of Christ Ministry, locally known as the Ayo Jesu Church. After the event concluded, she stayed briefly with a sibling who resides near the worship center.
Tragedy struck in the early hours of Friday as she journeyed back to her residence. It is believed she was intercepted by a gang of hoodlums around 6:00 a.m.

A community leader, who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to security concerns, detailed the chilling state in which the body was found at approximately 6:10 a.m.
“The suspects removed her clothes and underwear. They strangled her and also took her phone. Her ATM card and Bible were found at the scene,” the source disclosed.
Photographs obtained from the crime scene further revealed visible ligatures and marks on the victim’s wrists, indicating that her hands had been securely bound by her attackers before she was killed and dragged into the thicket.
Community Decries Rising Borderline Insecurity
The brutal killing has triggered widespread panic and anger among residents, who describe the location of the attack—a border terrain connecting Lagos and Ogun states—as a notorious haven for violent crimes.

A resident identified only as Adeola expressed absolute disbelief over the cruelty meted out to an elderly woman.
“She should be between 65 and 68 years old. Passersby found her body inside the bush and reported the matter at the police post in Ilogbo-Eremi,” Adeola said, noting that tracking the victim’s stolen mobile phone could provide a critical breakthrough for investigators.
Another community stakeholder lamented that the area has become increasingly unsafe, noting that this marks the fourth similar violent incident recorded along that specific axis in recent times.
Police Launch Investigation
Following the discovery, officers from the Ilogbo-Eremi police post deployed to the scene to recover the remains, cover the victim, and initiate preliminary field evaluations.

When contacted over the weekend regarding the state of the investigation and efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects, the Spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, CSP Abimbola Adebisi, did not immediately respond to official inquiries.
The incident adds to a worrisome trend of unresolved violent crimes within the outskirts of Badagry. Security experts and community leaders are urgently renewing calls for increased police presence, routine joint-border patrols, and improved public lighting along the Lagos-Ogun boundary corridors to deter criminal elements exploiting the isolated geography.
