ABUJA — Prominent socio-political activist and politician, Aisha Yesufu, has fiercely hit back at mainstream media houses, demanding immediate corrections to headlines suggesting she “quit” or “stepped down” from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Senatorial race under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
In an explosive statement released via her verified social media handles, the co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls movement insisted that she fought for the senatorial ticket until the very end, characterizing the narrative of her voluntary withdrawal as a blatant rewrite of history.
’A Predetermined Outcome’
Yesufu’s clarification comes on the heels of the NDC primary election in Abuja, where a party chieftain, Amanda Pam, was declared the winner. While initial media reports widely circulated claims that Yesufu had dropped out of the race, the activist painted a vastly different picture of a compromised, clandestine process.
According to Yesufu, the primary election was marred by structural irregularities designed to bypass the will of the ordinary party members. She alleged that the process suffered from:
1.Repeated postponements and sudden, last-minute venue changes.
2.The abrupt abandonment of direct primaries originally scheduled for local government headquarters.
3.A sudden shift to a centralized, delegate-based system.
”What was billed as a primary was, in truth, a predetermined outcome dressed in procedural formalities,” Yesufu stated. “When the moment came, the contest was not decided by delegates in the open; it was affirmed in a closed room, away from the people whose voices it was supposed to reflect.”
Eye on the Ultimate Prize
Despite leveling heavy allegations against the handling of the primary, Yesufu revealed she will not seek legal redress or drag the party through a prolonged litigation battle. She explained that her decision to accept the flawed outcome—rather than tear the young party apart—is a tactical choice made for the “greater good of the party and the nation” ahead of the 2027 general elections.

”The 2027 presidential election is the prize that matters in this electoral cycle,” Yesufu asserted, reiterating her alignment with the political movement surrounding the party’s leadership. “I am backing the better candidate in that race. That is where my energy belongs.”
No Retreat, No Surrender
The activist, who recently transitioned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC to pursue her legislative ambition, maintained that her political experiment has only strengthened her resolve. She noted that her volunteer network, the SAY-Nation, had built such a formidable grassroots presence that the party establishment felt forced to take the process behind closed doors.
Issuing a stern warning to press houses to report the facts accurately, Yesufu concluded: “Let no media house rewrite history. Correct your headlines. Posterity is watching. What we built—the network, the credibility, the grassroots trust—cannot be taken away in a backroom.”
