The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has taken swift disciplinary action by suspending Deputy Superintendent of Corps (DSC) Onoja Babayo Samuel. The suspension follows allegations of sporadic shooting and professional misconduct during a heated confrontation with traders at the Kubwa Market in Abuja on October 25, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the corps’ National Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi, the Commandant-General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, ordered an immediate Orderly Room Trial to determine the officer’s level of culpability. The corps emphasized its zero-tolerance policy regarding the misuse of firearms and any actions that endanger public safety or breach standard operating procedures.
The incident drew attention after the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command intervened following a distress call. Police operatives attached to the Kubwa Division arrested Samuel after he allegedly went to the market with a pistol to fire shots into the air following a dispute involving his wife and local traders.
Following his arrest, the NSCDC stripped the officer of all official responsibilities and pending assignments. A dedicated disciplinary committee stationed at the national headquarters in Abuja has been mandated to review the case, with findings and final outcomes to be made public upon the conclusion of the internal proceedings.
