The NAMA pensioners protest centres on unpaid pension increases and arrears that retirees say the agency owes them.
They are demanding immediate payment. The Contributory Pensioners Union of Nigeria, NAMA Branch, said the agency has failed to pay despite a reported release of N2.5bn in April 2026.
ValidViewNetwork reports that the union wrote to NAMA’s managing director on 12 October.
WHAT THEY WANT
The pensioners demand pension increases, arrears and a clear payment schedule. The arrears come from increases computed by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission and sent to NAMA for implementation.
They planned protests at the Abuja headquarters, the Lagos pension office and airports nationwide, with letters submitted from 22 October.
They gave the agency until the end of October to meet them and commit to payment.
THE LONG DISPUTE
The dispute stems from retirees’ move from the old Defined Benefits Scheme to the Contributory Pension Scheme. Pensioners say PenCom circulars place the duty to review pensions on NAMA.
A pensioners’ group says increases approved since 2007, including a N32,000 monthly adjustment, remain unpaid.
NAMA’S POSITION
The agency has said only 54 cases remain outstanding, not the 1,000 retirees claimed. PenCom and the Wages Commission have intervened.
Management earlier said retirees are managed by Pension Fund Administrators, so it cannot simply pay increments.
ValidViewNetwork has not seen a NAMA response to the latest protest. Pensioners cannot wait for a ruling the way an agency can.
The NAMA pensioners protest will end when someone shows where the N2.5bn went and when it will reach retirees. ValidViewNetwork reports.
