THE BRIDGE THAT CARRIES TRAFFIC AND TINUBU’S AMBITION: UMAHI’S POLITICAL DISPLAY EXPOSED

A bridge is supposed to carry traffic. Apparently, the First Niger Bridge may soon carry a political message too.

Works Minister David Umahi has directed that pictures of President Bola Tinubu be displayed on the bridge linking Anambra and Delta states after rehabilitation.

He said the President deserved to be appreciated for the intervention. The minister also ordered the removal of illegal advertisements and directed the installation of additional solar lights and completion of CCTV infrastructure.

But Umahi went further. He appealed to South-East voters ahead of the 2027 election, arguing that the region had benefited from projects under Tinubu despite its limited support for him in 2023.

That makes the bridge story more than an infrastructure update. It is now infrastructure, political messaging and election campaigning sharing the same structure.

The rehabilitation itself is a legitimate government project. The question is whether public infrastructure should also become a billboard for political gratitude. That is a debate for Nigerians. The bridge, meanwhile, still has a more immediate job: staying safe. ValidViewNetwork reports.
