BAUCHI — The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has urged voters across the country to accept financial inducements from politicians, but maintain strict loyalty to their true preferences at the ballot box.
Makinde delivered the advice on Saturday during the high-profile flag-off of the APM presidential campaign rally in Bauchi State, assuring a mammoth crowd of supporters that they should not feel guilty about pocketing such funds.
”It Is Your Money”: The Bauchi Rally Message
Speaking to enthusiastic supporters dressed in vibrant APM colors, Makinde argued that any funds distributed by politicians during campaigns are public resources being returned to the citizens.
“Don’t bother at all when they bring money, it is your money. Collect it, spend it, but vote your heart. And I know your heart is with us and with APM,” Makinde declared.
The Oyo State Governor emphasized that Nigerians who are deeply dissatisfied with the current socio-economic direction of the country must seize the 2027 general elections as an opportunity to effect fundamental change.
The APM “Reset Agenda”
At the rally, Makinde heavily criticized the nation’s current leadership trajectory, identifying widespread hunger as the most critical crisis facing ordinary citizens. He noted that his presidential platform is anchored on a comprehensive Reset Agenda designed to overhaul critical structural failures:
- Economic Overhaul: Restructuring macroeconomic policies to tackle extreme poverty, curb inflation, and alleviate severe national hunger.
- Security Architecture: Completely revamping the nation’s security framework to restore safety, protect rural livelihoods, and curb violent crime.
- Socio-Political Inclusion: Reforming the political environment to ensure that marginalized demographics and everyday citizens are actively integrated into governance.
”Our people are hungry. Because we’re hungry, should we reset the economy? Because there is insecurity, should we reset the security architecture? Because the majority of our people are not allowed to participate, should we reset the socio-political environment in Nigeria?” Makinde queried.
Party Chieftains Rally Behind the Ticket
The Bauchi campaign kickoff drew heavyweights from across the political landscape, lending momentum to the APM platform:
- Governor Bala Mohammed: The Bauchi State Governor and APM national leader revealed that he and Makinde broke away from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to systemic injustice. He endorsed Makinde’s “Reset Agenda” as a necessary remedy for tribalism, religious intolerance, and exclusion in governance.
- Lawal Daura: The APM vice-presidential candidate decried political deceit and hypocrisy, maintaining that the APM ticket represents absolute honesty, accountability, and inclusive leadership for all Nigerians.
- Yusuf Dantalle: The APM National Chairman stressed that an administration led by Makinde would foster greater political inclusion, particularly for women and youth.
As the race toward the 2027 general elections intensifies, Makinde’s unconventional counsel on campaign spending has injected a fresh, debated perspective into Nigeria’s ongoing discourse on voter inducement and electoral accountability.
