Police Raid Another Illegal Alcohol Factory in Badagry, Arrest 48-Year-Old Suspect

Operatives of the Badagry Police Division have shut down another alleged illegal alcohol production facility in the Iyafin area of Badagry, Lagos State, arresting a 48-year-old man identified as Emeka Anieba.

The night-time raid on Wednesday followed intelligence reports of unauthorised manufacturing of alcoholic beverages at the site. CSP Jude Nwokolo, the Divisional Police Officer, led the operation that resulted in Anieba’s arrest. A native of Anambra State, the suspect is being held in connection with the alleged production of fake and unapproved “Flamigo” alcoholic drinks.

Police recovered various items believed to have been used in the production and packaging of the beverages. Anieba remains in custody as investigations continue. Further details from the police are awaited.

The latest bust comes barely a week after the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) uncovered an illegal juice factory in the Aradagun area of Badagry. In that earlier operation, two women were arrested over the alleged production of an unregistered drink branded Barkas Juice, which officials said carried a purported fake NAFDAC registration number and was manufactured under unhygienic conditions.

The successive raids have intensified concerns about the production and circulation of unregulated beverages in Badagry. Residents and public health advocates have repeatedly raised alarms over products manufactured without regulatory approvals, proper safety standards or quality controls, warning of potential health risks associated with adulterated or counterfeit drinks.

Authorities have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious manufacturing or distribution activities to security agencies. Police said the investigation into Anieba’s alleged operations is ongoing, with additional information expected as the probe progresses.
