ABEOKUTA — The former Chief of Staff to the Ogun State Governor, Dr. Toyin Taiwo, has dismissed the 2027 governorship ambition of suspended All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Abayomi Hunye, describing it as a tactical maneuver for political patronage rather than a serious electoral challenge.

Speaking on a current affairs radio programme, Oju Abe, in Abeokuta, Dr. Taiwo maintained that the people of Ipokia have not endorsed Hunye and that his actions do not reflect the collective stance of the electorate. He noted that Hunye adopted a similar approach during Governor Dapo Abiodun’s first term before securing a commissioner slot, suggesting the current push for the nomination form is aimed at negotiating a political office.

Dr. Taiwo emphasized that Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) remains the undisputed consensus governorship candidate of the APC in Ogun State, having emerged through wide consultations with party leaders, former governors, and major stakeholders. He stressed that party supremacy must be respected, pointing out that Hunye has been suspended from the party starting from his ward level.

Expressing strong optimism for the 2027 general elections, Dr. Taiwo predicted a landslide victory for Senator Adeola over the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Ladi Adebutu, across all 20 local government areas of the state. He attributed the anticipated success to the combined impacts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Governor Dapo Abiodun’s ISEYA development pillars, and Senator Adeola’s legislative interventions.

As the APC consensus candidate for the Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency, Dr. Taiwo also pledged to champion federal attention for the developmental potential of Tongeji Island and vowed to expand his constituent support base—focusing on educational assistance, youth empowerment, and market women’s enterprise initiatives.
