Music icon Lionel Richie was admitted to the intensive care unit of a St. Louis hospital following a weekend performance, marking his second major tour-related health scare this summer.
The 77-year-old singer checked himself into a local medical facility as a precaution after headlining a concert at The Muny in Forest Park. Medical professionals have been running tests and examining potential mild dehydration as the primary factor behind the sudden setback.
Concertgoers noted that Richie appeared visibly fatigued toward the closing moments of the set. During his final song, “All Night Long,” he requested a stage chair to finish the performance while seated.
This incident echoes a frightening episode from June, when Richie was forced to cut short the opening night of his North American tour in St. Paul, Minnesota, after feeling dizzy and strange on stage. That event led to subsequent show postponements in Chicago and Columbus before he eventually resumed touring.
Tour sources indicate that Richie has responded well to observation and is aiming for discharge. Representatives for the singer have not yet issued an official statement regarding the status of upcoming tour dates.
