Nollywood actress and producer Funke Akindele has opened up about the emotional struggles behind her cheerful public image, revealing that she sometimes locks herself in a room, cries, and breaks down under the weight of fame and public scrutiny.
The revelation was made during an interview with CNN, where she reflected on the pressures of being in the spotlight .
THE CONFESSION
“I cry. I lock myself in the room, cry, break down, and hit the bed. But I just pick myself up and come back to life,” Akindele said .
The filmmaker, known for her ability to entertain audiences through her films and public appearances, acknowledged that the cheerful image people see does not always reflect what she experiences privately.
THE BURDEN OF PUBLIC OPINION
Akindele also spoke about the effect of public opinion on her personal life, recalling moments when she questioned her decisions and worried about how people would judge her.
“Sometimes I tell myself, you’ve made a mistake again. How are people going to judge you?” she said, describing the thoughts she sometimes had to overcome.
She explained that she has gradually learnt to confront challenges and move forward rather than allow public opinion to determine how she sees herself.
WHY IT MATTERS
Funke Akindele is one of the most successful and beloved figures in Nigerian entertainment. She has built a career that spans decades, from her breakout role in Jenifa to her current status as a producer and director.
But success does not immunize anyone from pain. Fame does not shield anyone from the weight of public expectation.
Her confession is a reminder that the people we see on screen, the ones who make us laugh and cry, are human beings with their own struggles.
They have bad days. They have doubts. They have moments when they want to lock themselves in a room and cry.
Akindele has chosen to speak about those moments. And in doing so, she has given permission to others to do the same. ValidViewNetwork reports.
