LOS ANGELES — Sheree Zampino, entrepreneur and high-profile ex-wife of Oscar-winning actor Will Smith, has launched an explosive $1 million defamation lawsuit against Smith’s former associate, Bilaal Salaam. The legal action follows a series of highly controversial and derogatory statements Salaam allegedly made regarding Zampino’s personal life during a recent internet broadcast.
According to court documents filed in California and obtained by TMZ, Zampino alleges that Salaam leveled “outrageously offensive, shocking, and hurtful statements” against her. The comments were broadcast during an appearance on the notorious celebrity gossip web series Unwine with Tasha K, hosted by Latasha Kebe.
The catalyst for the legal filing stems from a promotional clip distributed across social media platforms on May 4. The promotional teaser allegedly featured the explicit caption: “Exclusive: Bilaal claims Will Smith’s ex-wife Sheree Zampino was sleeping with everyone in Hollywood.”
Zampino’s legal team asserts that Salaam did not mince words during the full interview, repeatedly using deeply derogatory slurs and falsely accusing her of widespread sexual promiscuity within the entertainment industry. Under California law, falsely accusing an individual of such behavior constitutes slander per se, as it directly damages a person’s reputation and subjects them to public ridicule.
In her filing, Zampino expressed the severe emotional toll the broadcast has taken, noting that the viral remarks have caused her immense humiliation, embarrassment, mental anguish, and severe emotional distress. She is seeking upwards of $1 million in compensatory damages, alongside unspecified punitive damages and the coverage of her legal fees.
A Pattern of Legal Friction
Salaam, also known as “Brother Bilaal,” is no stranger to the inner circle of the Smith family—or to the inside of a courtroom. A former close associate and assistant to Will Smith, Salaam has spent the last few years releasing highly contentious claims about the family’s private life.
This lawsuit marks the latest chapter in an escalating web of litigation involving Salaam and the Hollywood dynasty. He is currently embroiled in a separate, high-stakes $3 million legal battle with Smith’s current wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. In that dispute, Salaam alleges he was subjected to intense harassment, intimidation, and physical threats of violence from Pinkett Smith and her entourage after threatening to publish a tell-all memoir detailing his time working for the family. The Smith family has previously dismissed Salaam’s various public claims as outright falsehoods.
With Zampino now entering the legal fray, the ongoing public and legal feud surrounding the extended Smith family shows no signs of slowing down. Representatives for Salaam have not yet publicly responded to Zampino’s filing.
