IBADAN – As the political atmosphere in Oyo State begins to gather steam ahead of the 2027 general elections, a leading contender for the Ibadan Northwest/Southwest Federal Constituency seat, Honourable Abayomi Fagbenro-Bibire, has declared that his political future remains secondary to the collective progress of the state.
Addressing journalists in Ibadan on Friday, the renowned philanthropist and House of Representatives aspirant reaffirmed his “unbending loyalty” to Governor Seyi Makinde. Fagbenro-Bibire emphasized that while his sights are set on the National Assembly, his primary motivation is the welfare of his constituents—a goal he maintains will remain a priority regardless of the 2027 electoral outcome.
A Legacy of Service Over Ambition
Fagbenro-Bibire, widely recognized for his extensive charitable work within the Ibadan metropolis, stated that his commitment to humanity predates his political aspirations.
”My passion for helping people was not birthed by political seasons and will not be extinguished by them,” he told newsmen. “Whether I serve as a federal lawmaker or continue my work as a private citizen, service to humanity is my chosen way of life.”
Seven Years of ‘Unprecedented’ Leadership
The aspirant lauded Governor Makinde for what he described as seven years of transformative governance. He noted that the Governor’s focus on infrastructure, healthcare, and education has set a standard that loyalists must protect.
”I must sincerely commend Governor Seyi Makinde for proving that leadership is about service. Those of us who believe in the development of Oyo State will continue to stand by him and support his strategic direction,” Fagbenro-Bibire stated.
2027: Following the Governor’s Lead
In a move to stem internal friction within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and among his support base, Fagbenro-Bibire urged his followers to remain disciplined. He expressed total confidence in the Governor’s leadership, signaling that he would abide by any party decision or executive direction regarding the 2027 ticket.
“Whatever decision Governor Makinde takes concerning 2027 is fully acceptable to me. I trust his judgment, as it is always guided by the peace, unity, and stability of our state,” he added.
Call for Unity
Concluding his address, the philanthropist urged his supporters across the Ibadan Northwest and Southwest Federal Constituency to prioritize the stability of the Makinde administration over individual interests. He cited the recent milestones in workers’ welfare and the completion of key road projects as reasons why the current leadership trajectory must be sustained.
As the race for the Green Chamber intensifies, Fagbenro-Bibire’s stance as a “party-first” loyalist positions him as a key figure in the strategic alignment of the PDP in Ibadan, emphasizing that for him, the “people’s welfare” remains the ultimate mandate.
