IFO, OGUN STATE – The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended a man identified as Oluwadamilare Ewedemi for allegedly subjecting his biological daughter to a harrowing six-year cycle of sexual abuse, resulting in five pregnancies and subsequent illegal abortions.
The suspect was taken into custody following a brave report filed by the 21-year-old victim, who finally managed to escape her father’s residence and seek refuge in a religious sanctuary.
A Childhood of Displacement and Deceit
The victim’s ordeal reportedly began long before the abuse. Having lost her mother as an infant, she was placed in a motherless babies’ home in Ikeja, Lagos State. In 2019, Ewedemi reportedly reclaimed her under the guise of providing guardianship and relocated her to Ijebu Ode.
However, the victim alleged that instead of fatherly care, she was met with systematic sexual exploitation. She claimed that the abuse began in 2019 and continued unabated for years, leading to five different pregnancies—all of which Ewedemi allegedly forced her to terminate through illegal means.
The Escape and Arrest
The victim’s silence broke on February 1, 2026, when she fled her father’s house to escape “excessive harassment.” She relocated to a church on Pakoto Mountain before eventually gathering the courage to report the matter to the Ifo Divisional Police Station on March 26.
Confirming the arrest on Monday, April 6, the Spokesperson for the State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ifo, CSP Kamorudeen, led the swift operation that brought Ewedemi into custody.
”The victim stated that her father began sexually abusing her in 2019 and continued the abuse over several years,” Babaseyi said. “During this period, she became pregnant five times, and her father reportedly procured an abortion for each pregnancy.”
Legal Proceedings
The suspect is currently in police custody as preliminary investigations conclude. Due to the sensitive and heinous nature of the crimes—which include incest and illegal procurement of abortion—the case has been officially transferred to the Gender Desk of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation and subsequent prosecution.
Authorities have assured the public that the victim is being provided with the necessary support as the state seeks to ensure the suspect faces the full wrath of the law.
