The tragic disappearance of Funmilayo Oluwamayokun Lasisi, a 39-year-old senior officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and her teenage daughter, Sewa Lasisi, has ended in devastating loss. Their mutilated remains were discovered over the weekend at a suspected herbalist’s residence in Osun State, sparking intense investigation and public outcry over the suspected ritualistic nature of their deaths.
Lasisi, a Superintendent Route Commander, ranked as a fourth-level senior operational officer charged with overseeing multiple routes and strategic enforcement, was reported missing alongside her daughter on the morning of Sunday, November 2nd. The two had left their home at Obasanjo Hilltop Estate, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Ogun State but never returned.
Efforts by family, colleagues, and police to contact the victims via mobile phones were futile, raising alarm among their loved ones. The Ogun State Police Command initiated a search while the mystery deepened. Recently, a Facebook user privy to the case, Ayomideji Solanke, shared that the remains of both the officer and her daughter had been found in an undisclosed community in Osun, within the home of a suspected traditional healer.
Authorities confirmed that while the herbalist’s wife has been arrested, the herbalist himself remains at large. Osun State Police have made some arrests related to the case and found suspected bodily exhibits at the scene that authorities believe to be parts of the victims’ remains.
Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, emphasized that the Osun Police Command is leading the probe, with continuous support from Ogun State Police. The gruesome discovery highlights a growing national concern as this is not the first reported incident of missing persons found dead with mutilations across various states.
This tragic episode underscores the urgency for heightened vigilance and swift justice in cases involving ritualistic violence, a menace that continues to unsettle communities and families across Nigeria.
