The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested George Idumangi, the suspected killer of 42-year-old estate agent Richard Ekpebu, who was abducted, murdered, and his body dumped in a bush on July 24, 2025. Idumangi, from Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa, was apprehended in Lagos while attempting to obtain an international passport at the Immigration Office. The police unit Operation Puff Adder, led by CSP Chris Nwaogbo, was tasked with the investigation and arrested Idumangi after trailing him through several locations in Lagos.

According to investigations, Victory Benard Henry, Idumangi’s girlfriend, also arrested in Yenagoa, allegedly lured Ekpebu by pretending to discuss a land sale. She reportedly received ₦1 million for her involvement. The suspect and accomplices allegedly abducted and killed Ekpebu to cover a false claim that the agent absconded with land documents, after the buyer paid ₦9 million directly to Idumangi’s account without Ekpebu’s knowledge. The police recovered a pump-action rifle and ammunition from Victory, and other items linked to the murder from Idumangi. The land involved had reportedly been sold before to a Chief Security Officer to former President Goodluck Jonathan, complicating the transaction.

The Bayelsa Commissioner of Police, CP Francis Idu, confirmed Idumangi’s arrest and thanked the public and government for their intelligence support in the investigation.
