Jos, Plateau State – The Christian community in Plateau State is mourning the loss of its esteemed leader, Rev. Fr. Dr. Polycarp Lubo, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Plateau State. Father Lubo passed away in the early hours of Sunday at an undisclosed hospital in Jos, following a brief illness. His death reportedly came after he was involved in an accident last week.

Multiple sources in Jos confirmed the sad news to our correspondent on Sunday. The Catholic Archdiocese of Jos also officially confirmed his passing in a condolence statement titled “Obituary Announcement,” signed by the Archdiocesan Chancellor, Daniel Gyang.

The statement conveyed profound sorrow and expressed condolences to Father Lubo’s immediate family, the CAN Plateau State Chapter, the Presbyterium of Jos, and the parishioners of St. William’s Parish, Zawan, where he served as Parish Priest and Dean of Zawan Deanery. It also extended sympathies to all religious and lay faithful of the Archdiocese.

“On a sad note but with total submission to the will of God, we hereby announce the passing unto eternal glory of Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Polycarp Lubo, who passed on to eternal glory in the wee hours of the morning of Sunday 15th June, 2025,” the statement read. “May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.”

Father Lubo was a prominent figure in the religious landscape of Plateau State, known for his leadership within CAN and his dedication to his priestly duties. He was actively involved in addressing various social and security issues affecting the state, often speaking out on behalf of the Christian community and advocating for peace and justice. His sudden demise leaves a significant void in the religious and communal leadership of Plateau State.
