Governor Fubara Faces Communication Breakdown with Assembly as Tensions Rise in Rivers State

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has accused the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Martins Chike Amaewhule, and other lawmakers loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike of severing all communication with him. This development unfolded during a failed attempt by Fubara to present the 2025 Appropriation Bill to the Assembly.

The Governor arrived at the Assembly Quarters on Wednesday 12th of March, accompanied by key officials, including his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, and Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo. However, they were met with locked gates and no indication of activity within the premises. Addressing journalists at the scene, Fubara expressed frustration, stating that his efforts to reach the Speaker and other lawmakers through calls and official letters had been ignored.

Fubara emphasized that his actions were in compliance with a Supreme Court judgment and in the best interest of Rivers State citizens. He remarked, “I came here with some members of my executive council to re-present the 2025 budget as directed by the court. Unfortunately, the Assembly remains inaccessible.”

The Speaker and Assembly members have not issued a formal response as of this report. However, sources suggest that procedural lapses in Fubara’s communication may have contributed to the standoff. This incident shows ongoing tensions between Fubara and lawmakers aligned with Wike amid a broader political crisis in Rivers State.
