Nigerians have barely adjusted to the latest petrol price before another increase has arrived.

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has raised its petrol gantry price from ₦1,265 to ₦1,350 per litre.

The new price took effect on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

The latest increase adds ₦85 to the previous price. It also marks the refinery’s fourth upward adjustment since August 21.In just 22 days, the refinery’s petrol price has climbed by ₦185 per litre.

That represents an increase of about 15.9 per cent.

ValidViewNetwork reports that the price moved from ₦1,165 to ₦1,185 on August 21. It rose again to ₦1,200 on August 26 before reaching ₦1,265 on August 29.

The latest jump takes it to ₦1,350.Why the price keeps movingThe new increase comes as international oil markets remain volatile.

Global crude prices have been pushed higher by fears over supply disruptions linked to the escalating conflict involving the United States and Iran.

The refinery also revised its coastal delivery price from ₦1,669,545 to ₦1,783,530 per metric tonne.

Customers were directed to return existing Authority to Collect documents for repricing before loading resumes.

The development matters beyond the refinery gate.Higher wholesale petrol prices can eventually feed into pump prices, transport costs and the wider cost of moving goods around the country.

For millions of Nigerians already dealing with high food and transport costs, another increase could quickly become more than a number on a refinery circular.

It could become another household calculation.

The bigger questionDangote Refinery has increasingly become central to Nigeria’s fuel market since it began supplying petrol locally.

That has raised expectations that domestic refining would eventually reduce Nigeria’s exposure to international supply shocks.

But crude oil remains an internationally traded commodity. Local refining does not completely shield the Nigerian market from global price movements.

The refinery’s repeated adjustments therefore expose a difficult reality.

Nigeria may now have more domestic refining capacity, but motorists are still exposed to the forces that move the international oil market.

The question for consumers is how much of the latest increase will eventually reach the filling station.

The question for policymakers is even bigger: how long can households continue absorbing increases in the price of the fuel that powers transportation, businesses and everyday life?

For now, the answer is sitting at ₦1,350 per litre.
