The suspected kidnappers allegedly came out of the forest expecting ransom.

They found security operatives waiting. Two kidnap victims have been rescued and three suspected kidnappers arrested after an intelligence-led operation in Ondo State, according to the police.

The operation reportedly began on September 11 after security authorities received information that suspected kidnappers hiding along the Ifira-Idoani axis planned to emerge from the forest to collect ransom.

Police operatives worked with the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun, and Agbe-Koya personnel to monitor the area.

At about 11:30pm, the suspected kidnappers reportedly emerged. Police said about four suspects, armed with firearms, opened fire after seeing the security operatives.

The security team responded while two victims, identified as Owolabi Patrick and Asoto Dada, were rescued unharmed.

The ransom money was also recovered.

Police said operatives found ₦1.5 million, believed to have been brought for the ransom payment, as well as a motorcycle and food items.

The suspects reportedly escaped into the forest after sustaining gunshot injuries. But the investigation continued.

Follow-up intelligence subsequently led security personnel to three suspects along Idoani Road. Police said two of those arrested had gunshot injuries to their legs.

The suspects were identified as Abdullahi Abubakar, Ibrahim Abubakar and Oseni Abubakar.

According to the police, the rescued victims later identified the suspects as people allegedly involved in their abduction.

ValidViewNetwork reports that the case has been transferred to the Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad in Akure for further investigation.

The police will now have to establish the alleged roles of the suspects and determine whether the available evidence can support prosecution.

The operation may have rescued two victims before the ransom was paid, but the next test is the justice process.

Those accused of kidnapping must answer for their actions if evidence establishes their guilt.

But they must answer through the law.

There should be no revenge attacks, mob justice or punishment outside the courts. The victims deserve justice, the public deserves security and suspects are entitled to due process.
