ABUJA – Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has rallied Nigerians with a powerful Easter message, declaring that corruption neither defines the nation nor stands a chance against its collective resolve.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday, April 4, 2026 – coinciding with Easter celebrations nationwide – Olukoyede felicitated with Christians, urging them to embrace the holiday’s profound lessons of triumph over adversity. “The lesson of Easter is all about undeniable victory over trial, corruption, and death,” he said. “This lesson is instructive for us as a nation. We will surely overcome the trial and trauma of corruption. We are not defined by corruption; we cannot be defeated by it.”
Olukoyede’s words come at a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s long battle against graft. Appointed EFCC boss in late 2023, he has overseen aggressive operations, including high-profile arrests and asset recoveries totaling over ₦120 billion in 2025 alone, according to EFCC reports. Recent busts targeting cyber fraud rings and oil subsidy scammers have bolstered the agency’s reputation, even as critics question the pace of prosecutions.
Drawing parallels to Christ’s resurrection, the EFCC leader called on citizens to sustain faith in the commission’s “relentless war” against economic crimes. “Keep hopes alive and continue to keep faith with the EFCC,” he implored, echoing his prior addresses where he framed anti-corruption as a moral and spiritual imperative.
Nigeria’s corruption woes remain stark. Transparency International’s 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index placed the country at 145 out of 180 nations, with persistent issues in public procurement and political financing. Yet Olukoyede struck an optimistic note, insisting Easter symbolizes the inevitable victory ahead.
His message resonates amid Easter festivities, where churches from Lagos cathedrals to Abuja megachurches packed pews for services emphasizing renewal. Analysts see it as a strategic morale booster, reinforcing President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s renewed push on transparency.
As Nigerians reflect on resurrection and redemption, Olukoyede’s charge invites a national recommitment: corruption’s chains can – and will – be broken.
