ABEOKUTA — The Ogun State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on the illicit possession of weapons, arresting three suspects and recovering an assortment of firearms and ammunition across the Mowe, Sagamu, and Odeda axes of the state.
In a statement released on Sunday, April 19, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, detailed a series of intelligence-led operations aimed at preempting violent crimes and cult-related activities.
Breakthroughs in Mowe and Sagamu
The enforcement drive began in Mowe on April 14, when officers acting on a tip-off apprehended 36-year-old Opeyemi Anuoluwapo. The suspect, who was allegedly loitering suspiciously at a bus stop, was found with a locally made pistol and charms. Police officials confirmed that Anuoluwapo has since confessed to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity.
In Sagamu, the Quick Response Squad (QRS) conducted targeted stop-and-search operations along the Sagamu/Ogijo Road. Two motorcyclists were intercepted in separate incidents near the Lafarge axis:
- Asaye Ajibola (30): Found with a locally made single-barrel gun and nine cartridges.
- Adedeji Olufemi (49): Apprehended with a double-barrel gun and eight cartridges.
Both men failed to provide legal documentation or a satisfactory explanation for the weapons.
Odeda Vigilante Shooting
The Command also addressed a chaotic scene in the Sawmill area of Osiele, Odeda. A local vigilante, Mutiu Sadiku, reportedly discharged his firearm accidentally while returning from a farm. The discharge struck three bystanders, who were rushed to a nearby hospital. Authorities confirmed the victims are currently in stable condition, and the weapon has been retrieved through a joint effort with the Amotekun Corps.
Commitment to Safety
Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, has directed that all suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
”We will continue to intensify our proactive policing strategies,” Ojajuni stated. “The safety of Ogun residents depends on our ability to rid the streets of unlawful firearms and the elements who use them to terrorize the public.”
