MANCHESTER — A north Manchester secondary school was plunged into lockdown this morning after a 14-year-old schoolgirl allegedly stabbed a male teacher and two fellow pupils.
Emergency services, including multiple police cruisers and an air ambulance helicopter, rushed to the Co-op Academy on Plant Hill Road in Blackley at approximately 8:30 AM following reports of a multiple stabbing just as the school day was getting underway.
Staff Intervened to Restrain Suspect
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that the targets of the attack were a 27-year-old male staff member, a 14-year-old boy, and a 14-year-old girl. According to police reports, the teacher sustained a wound to his neck, while the teenage boy suffered an ear injury and the teenage girl was wounded in the shoulder.
All three victims were taken to a local hospital. Authorities have since confirmed that their injuries, while consistent with stab wounds, are thankfully “non-serious” and none are believed to be life-threatening. All three remain in stable condition.
School administrators revealed that courageous staff members moved swiftly to implement emergency lockdown protocols and successfully restrained the armed student before officers arrived on the premises.
GMP arrested the 14-year-old suspect at the scene on suspicion of Section 18 assault (causing grievous bodily harm with intent). She remains in police custody for questioning.
‘Terrifying Chaos’ Outside School Gates
As news of the stabbing spread through frantic text messages and phone calls from trapped students, hundreds of worried parents rushed to the school gates. Many expressed anger and confusion over an initial lack of information from school authorities as the building remained surrounded by emergency vehicles.
”You hear things on the news, but you never think it will happen at your child’s school,” one mother told reporters at the scene. “For it to happen right on your doorstep is absolutely terrifying.”
The academy remained in a hard lockdown for several hours before administrators made the decision to cancel classes for the remainder of the day. Parents were required to send explicit digital authorization or verify their identity with staff before students were systematically released from their classrooms.
No Wider Threat to Community
In a statement aimed at calming public anxiety, Chief Inspector Jon Shilvock praised the quick actions of the school faculty and assured the public that the violence was an isolated incident.
”The incident was swiftly and quickly dealt with by staff before officers attended to arrest the girl,” Chief Inspector Shilvock said. “There is believed to be no wider threat at this time… Officers will remain at the school and within the area to provide a visible presence and community reassurance.”
The Co-op Academy confirmed that the site has been fully secured and contained. While the school remained closed for the afternoon to assist with the ongoing forensic investigation, administrators announced that regular classes are expected to resume tomorrow morning.
