LAGOS, NIGERIA — Popular Nigerian businessman, media commentator, and younger brother to the former governor of Ekiti State, Isaac Fayose, has announced the tragic passing of his beloved wife after a long and grueling battle with cancer.
The social media personality broke the heartbreaking news to the public on Saturday morning through his official social media platforms. Sharing a poignant photograph of his late wife, Fayose penned a brief, emotionally shattered tribute that read, “Rest in peace my darling wife.” He further added in a mixture of grief and deep affection, “Odaro oyibo mi,” a traditional Yoruba parting phrase translating to, “Goodnight, my white woman.”
The announcement has thrown friends, family, and thousands of his followers into deep mourning, coming just weeks after the entrepreneur opened up publicly about the harsh reality of her deteriorating health.
A Brave but Silent Battle
The news of her demise marks the somber end to a medical battle that Isaac Fayose had previously described as spiritually and financially humbling.
In late March 2026, Fayose had shared a deeply emotional video from Australia, where his family is based, weeping openly as he described the devastating impact the illness had on his wife. He revealed at the time that the disease had left her profoundly frail, stripped of her speech, and unable to carry out basic daily functions.
Recalling his arrival in Australia, a visibly shaken Fayose had lamented how drastically things had changed.
“The same woman who usually picks me up at the airport couldn’t come, so I had to take an Uber,” Fayose said during the March broadcast. “She used to cook for me, but now I find myself cooking for her. She can neither cook nor speak. I sat beside her and sang her favourite hymn, ‘Abide With Me,’ in English and Yoruba; she couldn’t respond, but she held my hand tightly as I sang.”
A Lesson in Humility and a Message to Leadership
For a man known for his flamboyant online presence and unreserved commentary, his wife’s illness became a turning point that shifted his entire worldview. In his public vulnerability, Fayose had used his family’s trial to deliver a searing indictment on the vanity of wealth and political greed in Nigeria, noting that all the money in the world amounts to nothing in the face of mortality.
“My million-dollar house couldn’t save my wife, not even my wealth. So why make others poor by taking what belongs to them when we will all leave this world someday?” he asked tearfully. “Those trying to bribe me to be on your side, what will I do with the money? It couldn’t even save my wife.”
Fayose stated that the painful experience had completely reshaped his priorities, vowing to dedicate his voice, time, and remaining resources to advocating for the masses and public institutions rather than aligning with corrupt political interests. He had also called on leaders, including President Bola Tinubu, to urgently focus on alleviating the immense suffering of the Nigerian people.
As news of her passing spreads, condolences have begun pouring in from prominent public figures, politicians, and well-wishers across the country, commiserating with the Fayose family over the irreplaceable loss.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
