ABUJA — The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dealt a significant blow to organized crime in the nation’s capital, announcing the arrest of six suspected kidnappers and the recovery of N8.25 million in ransom money. The syndicate, which allegedly specialized in both abduction and “one-chance” armed robbery, was reportedly spearheaded by a 35-year-old woman.
The breakthrough follows an intense operation by the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU). FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, briefing the press on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, detailed how the syndicate was neutralized following the abduction of a woman in the upscale Maitama district on June 29.

According to police reports, the kidnappers initially exerted extreme pressure on the victim’s family, demanding a N20 million payout. After days of negotiations, the gang settled for N8.25 million, eventually releasing the victim on July 3.
Utilizing advanced digital tracking and intelligence-led policing, detectives traced the perpetrators to a hideout in Kwan-Kwashe Village, located in neighboring Niger State. Maintaining strategic surveillance even after the victim’s release, officers moved in on July 5, apprehending the six suspects at a location in Suleja.
The suspects are Ifeoma Nnamchi (35), identified as the gang leader; Peter Rasheed Onwunumah (40); Olanipekun Anuoluwa (46); Jemimah Monday (25); Gabriel Nnamchi (14); and Stanley Nnamchi (17).

Beyond the recovery of the full ransom amount, police seized a cache of items used in the commission of these crimes. Recoveries include two vehicles—a Toyota Corolla and a Toyota Camry—a cutlass, five mobile phones, a laptop, seven pairs of AirPods, and a collection of assorted jewelry believed to be proceeds from previous criminal operations.
Preliminary background checks have revealed a troubling history of recidivism among the gang members. The alleged leader, Ifeoma Nnamchi, had a prior arrest record with the FCT Command dating back to 2022 for similar offenses, while Olanipekun Anuoluwa had been previously apprehended in 2019.
CP Sanusi reiterated the Command’s commitment to purging the FCT of criminal elements, emphasizing that the suspects are currently undergoing further interrogation and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information to the police to support ongoing anti-crime efforts.
