The family of Princess Nwamaka Mediatrix Chigbo, a prominent Abuja-based lawyer, has confirmed her horrific murder following an abduction in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory on January 5, 2026. She was speaking on the phone with her sister Anthonia when distress screams echoed before the line went dead, prompting immediate family alerts to authorities. Kidnappers contacted relatives demanding ₦3 million but provided no payment details, hurling curses in English and Hausa before cutting communication.
Abduction and Failed Rescue Efforts
Family members swiftly notified the FCT Police Command, Inspector General of Police, and Scorpion Squad, who assured tracking of the suspects described as “in motion.” Despite ongoing contact, Nwamaka’s screams of agony—”I am dying, save me, please send the money”—were heard during attempted calls, heightening fears. Early on January 6, police reported a critically injured woman at an Abuja specialist hospital; family identification in the mortuary revealed her tortured body, confirming the brutal outcome.
Professional and Faith Legacy
Princess Nwamaka served as former treasurer of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Abuja branch and held leadership roles in the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Global Association of Female Lawyers (GAFA), and Catholic Lawyers Association, where she was past president. A devout Catholic, she authored a book on the Infant Jesus, led as vice president of the Infant Jesus Association, and participated in the Mother of Perpetual Help group, earning widespread respect among peers. Colleagues remember her as deeply committed to legal practice, community service, and women’s advocacy.
Calls for Justice Amid Security Concerns
The family expressed gratitude to police, friends, and supporters while demanding swift justice, with funeral details pending announcement. The NBA has urged the Nigeria Police Force to arrest and prosecute those responsible, highlighting this as part of broader FCT insecurity including “one-chance” attacks. This tragedy underscores rising kidnappings and violence in Abuja, prompting public outcry for enhanced security measures. 🕯️ Rest in peace.
