ABUJA – The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has challenged members of the Girls Guide to internalize the values of honesty and self-discipline as a safeguard against the allure of economic and financial crimes.
Speaking at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja during a study tour by the Africa Girls Guide, Olukoyede emphasized that the future of Nigeria and the continent at large rests on the shoulders of young women who choose the path of integrity even in the absence of supervision.
Building Legacies Through Character
Represented by Deputy Commander of the EFCC (DCE) Nwayinma Okeanu, the EFCC boss noted that the nation is in dire need of a generational shift in mindset.

”The only way to move the nation forward is by being true to ourselves and doing the right things even when nobody is there to police us,” Olukoyede stated. He urged the delegates to focus on building “solid structures” today to ensure a certain and prosperous tomorrow, leaving a legacy that future generations can emulate.
Supporting this sentiment, the Acting Director of Staff Welfare Services, DCE Felicia Bot Timothy, encouraged the girls to remain ambassadors of their upbringing. “Your future depends on how you handle today. Continue to be the ladies of character you were taught to be,” she added.

The Digital Frontline: Combatting Cybercrime
As part of the study tour, the EFCC provided technical insights into the evolving landscape of digital crime. Inspector of the EFCC (IE) Kayode Eniola delivered a presentation on cybercrime, detailing the mechanics of hacking, phishing, and romance scams.

Eniola warned the students that beyond the legal consequences, cybercrime inflicts permanent reputational damage and severe financial loss on victims. She provided practical safety tips, including:
- The use of complex, multi-factor passwords.
- The necessity of frequent software updates.
- The importance of logging out of shared digital devices to prevent unauthorized access.
Prevention Over Prosecution
Assistant Commander of the EFCC II (ACE) Aisha Mohammed, Head of the Enlightenment and Reorientation Unit, clarified the Commission’s broader mandate. She stressed that while the public often focuses on arrests, the EFCC is deeply invested in proactive prevention.

”We are here to engage you early and guide you on the right path,” Mohammed said. She called on the Girls Guide to act as “change agents” by rejecting criminal narratives and partnering with the Commission to promote transparency within their schools and local communities.
The visit concluded with a call for the students to become “integrity ambassadors,” standing firm against internet fraud and other social vices that undermine the economic stability of the region.
