The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Anambra Zonal Directorate has intensified its campaign against economic and financial crimes through high-level engagements with key security agencies and traditional leaders in Anambra State. On March 5, 2026, Acting Zonal Director ACE I Ofen-Imu Atiba Sunday led a team on courtesy visits to promote synergy in tackling corruption. These moves align with broader EFCC strategies to localize anti-graft efforts in the Southeast, covering Anambra and Imo states.

The delegation met leaders including DSS State Director C. Anukposi, NSCDC State Commandant Akachia Godwin, NIS State Comptroller Umerah Timothy Nwanegbo, FRSC State Sector Commander Bridget Asekhauno, NDLEA State Commandant Onubogu Charles Orakwue, and His Majesty Igwe Chidubem Iweka, Eze Obosi III, Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council. Atiba Sunday stressed the need for joint intelligence sharing, prevention measures, and enforcement to protect Nigeria’s economy. He highlighted prevalent crimes like public sector graft, land fraud, tax evasion, advance fee scams, cybercrime, bank fraud, and market abuses in the zone.

Responses were uniformly supportive. Anukposi pledged DSS backing for joint operations against threats to national security. Godwin praised ongoing NSCDC-EFCC ties on illegal bunkering and vandalism. Nwanegbo offered NIS expertise in border control and migration-linked crimes, while Asekhauno urged use of FRSC’s database for accountability. Orakwue committed NDLEA to fighting overlaps with drug trafficking and money laundering. The Eze Obosi vowed grassroots mobilization via the Traditional Council to instill ethics and integrity.

This initiative follows the recent launch of the Awka Zonal Directorate, aimed at faster responses to fraud and corruption in Anambra and Imo. Preliminary data shows these crimes erode trust, deter investment, and hinder development, echoing EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede’s nationwide push. Similar outreach in Imo secured pledges from DSS, judiciary, and traditional rulers, reinforcing regional momentum.
