
The Ebem Ohafia ancient kingdom in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State has been thrown into profound grief following two separate vehicular accidents that claimed the lives of two industrious indigenes within a 24-hour window.
The victims, identified as Mr. Thompson Kalu and Mr. Uma Orji (popularly known as Ome Ego), met their untimely deaths between Sunday evening and Monday morning, leaving the local community in shock.
Fatal Sunday Night Crash
The first tragedy occurred on Sunday night when Mr. Thompson Kalu was riding his motorcycle. According to local sources, an oncoming truck operating recklessly without headlamps collided violently with Kalu. The impact was catastrophic; Kalu suffered severe cranial injuries and died instantly at the scene before emergency medical assistance could reach him.
Monday Morning Lone Accident
As the community struggled to process Kalu’s sudden demise, a second tragedy struck on Monday morning. Mr. Uma Orji was operating a truck when the vehicle suddenly lost control, crashed, and rolled over, trapping him underneath. Orji sustained fatal injuries from the weight of the vehicle and died on the spot.

The paramount ruler of the Ebem Ohafia ancient kingdom, Ezie Ukoha Kalu, alongside the Ezie-in-Council and the Ebem Ohafia Development Union (EODU), expressed deep devastation over the losses.

In an official statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the EODU, Chief Ifeanyi Okali, the community described the deceased as responsible, hardworking men who were dedicated to providing for their families and uplifting the society. The leadership noted that the twin losses have left a massive void in the community and called for strength for the grieving families.
At the time of filing this report, official statements from the Abia State Police Command and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) regarding the technical causes of the accidents are still being awaited.
