The Delta State Police Command has launched a massive crackdown on violent crime, resulting in the arrest of five suspected armed robbers and cultists across the state’s major hubs. In a series of high-stakes, intelligence-led raids spanning Warri, Ughelli, and Sapele, operatives recovered an arsenal of illegal weapons and ammunition.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the breakthroughs on Monday, attributing the success to coordinated strikes by the CP-Special Assignment Team and the Quick Response Squad.
Midnight Raid in Ughelli
The crackdown began in the late hours of February 27, 2026. Around 11:35 p.m., police tactical teams stormed the Ekredjebor area of Ughelli, intercepting one Oghenemaro Festus. A search of the suspect yielded a pump-action gun loaded with live cartridges. According to police records, Festus is a primary suspect in a string of “house-to-house” robberies that have recently terrorized Agbarho residents.
Sapele’s “Anini” Captured
In a separate dawn operation on March 1, 2026, officers in Sapele targeted a motorcycle-riding robbery syndicate. At approximately 3:35 a.m., 21-year-old Prince Omanure—notoriously nicknamed “Anini” after the infamous 1980s heist kingpin—was apprehended in the Ghana Area.
Omanure reportedly led investigators to a concealed spot in the bush along the Warri-Sapele Road, where a fabricated Beretta pistol and eight rounds of live ammunition were recovered.
Warri Cultist Den Disrupted
The wave of arrests continued in Warri, where intelligence suggested members of the Black Axe Confraternity (Aye) were planning a coordinated attack on local residents. Operatives raided a building on Okwagbe Street, Igbudu, leading to the arrest of three suspects: Nelson Mudiagha (alias Diara), Efe Nyore, and Ebube Ifeanyi.
While several accomplices fled during the raid, a search of the premises uncovered a locally fabricated double-barrel gun and 17 live cartridges. The suspects have reportedly confessed to their membership in the cult group.
Commissioner’s Vow
Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, has reassured the public that the command will remain “resolute and uncompromising” in its mission to dismantle criminal networks. He noted that while five suspects are in custody, manhunts are currently underway to track down fleeing members of these syndicates.
