A devastating family tragedy has come full circle after three sisters who drowned off Brighton beach were revealed to have lost their mother to a similar fate 16 years ago.
Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, lost their lives after reportedly misjudging a treacherous underwater shingle shelf. The tight-knit sisters, who lived together in Uxbridge, London, were described by heartbroken relatives as inseparable best friends.
In a cruel twist of fate, the family confirmed that the sisters’ mother, Janice Adetoro, also died by drowning in January 2010. Janice, 43, who had been battling stress-related mental health struggles, went missing from her home and was later discovered in Brookvale Park lake in Birmingham.

A Father’s Grief
The sisters’ father, Joseph, expressed his unimaginable agony over the loss of his daughters, who had been his anchors since his first wife’s passing.
”Today, with a heart full of sorrow and love, I pay tribute to my beloved daughters — Jane, Christina, and Becky — whose lives ended so tragically far too soon,” Joseph said. “The tragedy of losing all three of you has left an emptiness that words cannot heal.”
His wife, Genevieve Barnaby, paid tribute to her stepchildren, describing them as beautiful, well-behaved young women. Meanwhile, the girls’ uncle, Adesoji, has launched a fundraiser to support the family through the logistics of the triple funeral.
The three women were highly accomplished:
1.Jane Adetoro (36): An “extremely intelligent” accountant who acted as a maternal figure to her younger siblings.

The Hidden Danger of the Shingle Shelf
The emergency operation began at 5:45 AM last Wednesday following urgent reports of a person in distress near the Black Rock car park off Madeira Drive. Despite rapid intervention by coastguards and emergency services, all three women were pulled from the water unresponsive.
Investigators are currently focusing on the notorious geographical hazards of Brighton’s shoreline. The area’s pebbled beaches feature steep, shifting underwater drop-offs that can quickly catch un-mapped paddlers off guard.
A Coastguard source noted that a single forward step on the shifting shingle can cause someone to instantly drop two or more feet into powerful undercurrents, making it incredibly difficult to regain footing.
Sussex Police have stated that there is currently no evidence of foul play or third-party involvement. Chief Superintendent Adam Hays reassured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to give the grieving family definitive answers.
