The resort city of Pattaya, Thailand, has been gripped by horror following the discovery of 17-year-old Tunchanok Donhomla’s body, which was found stuffed inside a suitcase near a local railway track in late June 2026.
Simon Peter Carman, 45, an Australian national, has been arrested and charged with the teenager’s murder. The case, which has drawn international attention, involves accusations of intentional murder, concealing a corpse, and the abduction of a minor for indecent purposes.
A Fatal Encounter
According to investigative reports from Thai authorities, the incident began with a chance encounter on a beach in Pattaya. CCTV footage captured Carman and the victim—known affectionately as “Cake” to friends and family—walking hand-in-hand toward a residential building in the early hours of June 25, 2026.
The victim had reportedly messaged friends via the Line app shortly after arriving at Carman’s apartment, noting that the room was “messy,” a detail that has since become a focal point of the investigation into the conditions inside the residence.
Allegations and Defense
Police allege that a violent argument broke out between the two, reportedly over payment for sexual services. During the altercation, Carman allegedly strangled the teenager until she was motionless.
Carman, who was apprehended by police at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport while attempting to board a flight to Perth, has denied the murder charges. In statements provided to police and captured in custody footage, he claimed that the death was an accident occurring in self-defense, alleging that the teenager had threatened him with a flick knife. Thai officials, however, have noted that the investigation is ongoing, with forensic evidence and witness testimonies being carefully analyzed.
Disturbing New Details
The case has deepened as further accounts emerge from Pattaya’s social scene. Recent reports from acquaintances and business owners in the area describe Carman as a regular at local bars, where he often exhibited behavior that others found unsettling, including persistent attempts to solicit massages from young women and frequent, sometimes aggressive, disputes over bills.
The victim’s family, including her father, Thongchai Donhomla, have expressed deep grief and have publicly rejected any notion of a “blood money” settlement, stating their resolve to see the legal process conclude with the full extent of the law.
Under the Thai criminal code, the charge of intentional murder can carry the death penalty or a sentence of 15 to 20 years imprisonment. Authorities expect the investigation to reach a conclusion within the coming months as they continue to piece together the events of that night.
