The Nigeria Police Force is mourning the loss of one of its most formidable assets, Inspector Aderibigbe Abimbola, a woman whose grit and tactical brilliance earned her the moniker “Iron Lady.” In an emotional tribute, Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Tunde Disu described her passing as a profound void that would be felt across the nation’s security landscape.
Recalling their collaboration during the high-stakes reorganization of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Ondo State, AIG Disu painted a picture of an officer who possessed a “sixth sense” for detective work. At a time when the unit was tasked with dismantling dangerous criminal networks, Abimbola emerged not just as a participant, but as a leader.
”She was iron on the inside and gold on the outside,” Disu remarked, reflecting on her unique ability to balance the cold, hard requirements of criminal investigation with a genuine, infectious warmth.
The Detective Who Never Blinked
The AIG highlighted that Abimbola’s gender was never a barrier to her performance. In a field dominated by men, she asked for no concessions. She endured the grueling realities of life on the trail—sleeping in cramped vehicles and on station benches—often outworking her male counterparts.
Her legendary status was cemented during a high-pressure kidnapping case in Oyo State. After local investigations hit a stalemate, Disu summoned Abimbola. In a feat of investigative prowess, she reportedly cracked the case within 24 hours. “Where everyone else saw a wall, Bimbo found a door,” Disu noted.
A Legacy Beyond the Badge
For AIG Disu, Abimbola was more than a skilled operative; she was a trailblazer who redefined what it meant to be a woman in the Nigeria Police Force. Her career served as a living masterclass in courage, proving that bravery and professional excellence are gender-blind.
As the force prepares to bid her a final farewell, Disu’s words serve as a reminder of the quiet sacrifices made by officers like Abimbola. “She bled for this job,” he stated. “She gave up comfort and rest so others could sleep in peace.”
Though her siren has gone silent, the “Iron Lady” leaves behind a legacy of justice that will continue to inspire the next generation of Nigerian detectives.
