The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has said only Computer-Based Test centres that meet its prescribed standards will be accredited to host the 2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, as the board moves to sanitise the conduct of the exam and protect its integrity.
The directive was announced by the board on Thursday, ValidViewNetwork reports .
THE DIRECTIVE
JAMB said the decision was part of efforts to ensure that candidates sit for the examination in conducive environments with functional equipment.
The board warned that centres found to be substandard would not be accredited, and that those that fail inspections would be excluded from hosting the 2027 UTME.
THE STANDARDS
JAMB has repeatedly emphasised that CBT centres must meet specific requirements, including adequate computer systems, reliable power supply, and secure examination environments.
The board has also warned against illegal admissions and the sale of application forms outside its approved platforms, stressing that all admissions must be processed through JAMB
WHY IT MATTERS
The integrity of the UTME depends on the quality of the centres where it is conducted.
When centres are ill-equipped, candidates are disadvantaged. When power fails, exams are disrupted. When security is lax, cheating flourishes.
JAMB’s decision to enforce standards is a necessary step to protect the credibility of the examination.
