Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has strongly condemned the Senator David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring that they seized control of the opposition party through undemocratic means.
Bwala’s fiery remarks, shared via his X platform handle, come on the heels of a dramatic Federal High Court judgment delivered by Justice Peter Lifu, which nullified the Mark-led caretaker committee and invalidated all actions carried out under its watch—including the primary that produced key opposition figures for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Weighing in on the escalating legal and political crisis rocking the opposition camp, Bwala maintained that any political platform aspiring to manage the affairs of Nigeria must first model internal equity, transparency, and strict adherence to due process.
”A political party that wants to govern Nigeria must be a party of due process, equity and justice,” Bwala stated. “You descended on ADC like a thief in the night, took over its leadership undemocratically and hoped that all is well.”
The presidential aide further lambasted the ousted leadership for flagrantly flouting the party’s internal constitution, guidelines, the Nigerian Constitution, as well as statutory stipulations under the Electoral Act and regulations set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to him, such infractions demonstrate a blatant disrespect for the Nigerian electorate, driven by the miscalculation that the public could easily be hoodwinked regarding the controversial framework of their emergence. Bwala also took aim at political proxies and lobbyists advocating on behalf of the embattled exco, insinuating that their relentless defense is motivated by expectations of financial patronage.
The legal blow dealt to the Mark-led executive originates from a suit filed by Nafiu Bala Gombe, a former National Deputy Chairman of the party (North-East), who contested the legitimacy of the process that ushered in the caretaker committee following leadership shifts within the party. The ruling has since triggered widespread reactions across the political landscape, drawing sharp criticisms from major stakeholders and opposition figures ahead of the 2027 polls.
