The Inter-Party Advisory Council in Yobe State has announced the removal of its Chairman, Umaru Jajere, and Secretary, Mustapha Gado, following a vote of no confidence passed during an emergency meeting in Damaturu.
The council accused the ousted leaders of financial mismanagement, lack of transparency, and unilateral decision-making. According to a statement signed by Acting Secretary Habiba Umaru, the former executives allegedly failed to consult member political parties or convene regular general assembly meetings.
Furthermore, the leadership was accused of using the council’s name to appropriate quarterly palliatives from the North-East Development Commission and various government and non-governmental bodies for personal gain, bypassing member parties entirely.
Jajere, who represents the Action Peoples Party, and Gado, a member of the Action Democratic Party, have been instructed to immediately cease representing the council and hand over all official documents and properties.
To fill the leadership vacuum, the council appointed Mukhtar Audu Hassan of the All Progressives Congress as acting chairman and Umaru of the Young Progressives Party as acting secretary. The new appointments take effect immediately and will remain active pending fresh elections.
Speaking on behalf of the newly constituted leadership, Hassan promised to restore transparency, inclusiveness, and accountability. He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Yobe State Government, security agencies, and the public to disregard the former executives and recognize only the newly appointed council.
