The pursuit of accountability for the late Afrobeat singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, has once again thrown the Nigerian entertainment sphere into turmoil. Controversial social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has bared it all regarding his bitter falling-out with music heavyweights David Adeleke (Davido) and Omoniyi Temidayo Raphael (Zlatan), alongside other prominent industry figures.
In a candid address directed to his loyal support base, the Ratel Movement, the activist detailed how a movement originally forged in unity ultimately fractured over conflicting agendas, covert betrayals, and differing ideologies regarding the tragic demise of the young star.
From Initial Solidarity to Deep-Seated Bitterness
According to the activist, the coalition fighting for justice began to crumble as individual motivations surfaced. While the initial wave of outrage focused heavily on calling out Marlian Records boss Azeez Fashola (Naira Marley) over Mohbad’s prior grievances, VDM claimed that subsequent investigations began to ruffle feathers in unexpected quarters.
He alleged that certain influential figures within the industry were less concerned with uncovering the truth behind Mohbad’s death and more invested in settling pre-existing personal scores with Naira Marley. As part of this internal power play, he claimed, attempts were made to pressure signee Zinoleesky into abandoning Marlian Records—a move the young artist reportedly resisted.
The Davido Fallout: A Brotherhood Soured by WhatsApp Leaks
Recounting his relationship with Davido, VDM revealed that a cordial bond was struck in 2024 after the DMW boss extended a social media follow. However, the dynamics shifted dramatically in 2025.
The activist stated that he laid hands on a leaked WhatsApp group chat allegedly exposing individuals within Davido’s inner circle who orchestrated moves leading to VDM’s own arrest in 2024. Driven by a desire for answers, VDM claimed he repeatedly attempted to reach the singer via phone calls, which went unanswered. Matters escalated when a blog post surfaced alleging that VDM intended to secretly record a conversation with Davido and weaponize it against him—an insinuation the activist termed the ultimate betrayal.
Beyond the leaked chats, VDM added that ideological differences further widened the gulf, explicitly tying his public criticisms of Davido to the singer’s political alignments and active support for his uncle’s political office.
Accusations Against Zlatan and the ‘Account Balance’ Controversy
Turning his attention to rapper Zlatan, VDM did not mince words. He criticized the indigenous hip-hop artist for maintaining a conspicuous silence during the critical early stages of the grassroots campaign for Mohbad. Furthermore, he accused Zlatan of capitalizing on the emotional public momentum surrounding the tragedy to market his collaborative single, “Account Balance.”
Standing Firm Amid Public Scrutiny
Closing his address, VDM forcefully dismissed notions that his public fallout with the industry elites stemmed from envy or clout-chasing. Instead, he maintained that his actions are driven purely by integrity and a refusal to compromise on principles he believes were subverted during the quest for justice. With the bridges now officially burnt, the activist has made it clear that he wants no further association with the artists, drawing a permanent line in the sand as the fallout continues to reverberate across the Nigerian digital space.
