BIRNIN KEBBI — Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has formally flagged off his 2027 presidential campaign under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State, vowing to alleviate widespread economic hardship by restoring the fuel subsidy and restructuring the nation’s security architecture.
Addressing a massive crowd of supporters at the party’s secretariat in Birnin Kebbi, Atiku framed the upcoming 2027 general elections as a crucial national referendum. He asserted that Nigerians would use the ballot to determine whether to sustain the current administration’s policies or embrace a viable alternative to mounting poverty, inflation, and insecurity.
”Do you want the return of subsidy? Do you want security? Do you want employment? Therefore, you have no option other than the ADC,” Atiku told cheering party faithfuls, presenting the party as the sole vehicle capable of restoring national prosperity.
The rally also served as the official presentation of the party’s flag to Abubakar Malami as the ADC’s governorship candidate for Kebbi State in the 2027 elections. Party chieftains, including the Director-General of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Austin Akobundu, lauded supporters for defying alleged state-sponsored intimidation to grace the event.
The campaign milestone comes on the heels of legal hurdles for the opposition party. Hours prior to the rally, a Federal High Court in Abuja delivered a judgment nullifying the Senator David Mark-led leadership of the ADC and voiding the processes that produced Atiku’s candidacy.
Dismissing the ruling as a political maneuver by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to cripple the opposition, Atiku maintained that the movement remains undeterred. Citing a prior subsisting judgment that upheld the leadership, he announced that his legal team has headed to the Court of Appeal to challenge the verdict, urging supporters to remain calm and focused on the path to 2027.
