The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has launched a scathing attack on the political prospects of Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general election, declaring that the widespread momentum that fueled his previous presidential bid has completely evaporated.
Speaking during a monthly media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Wike asserted that the shifting political climate has dismantled the structures that carried the former Anambra State governor in 2023. Dismissing the opposition figure, the minister bluntly stated, “All this so-called Obi kererenke doesn’t exist again. I have killed it.”
Questioning Opposition Viability
Wike argued that Nigerians have grown wiser to empty political rhetoric, labelling Obi a “dramatist” who lacks any substantive solutions for the country’s challenges. He further challenged whether the financial backing and grassroots fervor defining the previous election cycle could be replicated, asking pointedly, “How many people are contributing money for Obi today?”
Expanding his critique to other opposition heavyweights, Wike maintained that citizens had previously handed opportunities to figures like Atiku Abubakar without seeing meaningful transformation. While conceding that former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso commands strong regional support, Wike questioned whether that influence could stretch effectively across the entire North-Central and broader northern landscape.
The FCT minister’s remarks underscore intensifying political realignments and verbal sparring as various camps position themselves well ahead of the upcoming electoral race.
