During a high-profile town hall meeting in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for sidelining the state and failing to address deepening economic hardship.
Addressing enthusiastic supporters, traders, and party faithful, Obi claimed that despite spending over 260 days traveling abroad since taking office, the President has neglected Imo by failing to spend even a single night in the state.
Economic Hardship and National Security Concerns
Obi, who interacted closely with local market traders prior to the event, stated that ordinary citizens are bearing the brunt of unsustainable economic policies. He highlighted alarming national statistics, pointing out that:
- Over 140 million Nigerians are currently trapped in multidimensional poverty.
- Approximately 18 million children remain out of school.
- Nigeria continues to grapple with severe terror threats and pervasive insecurity.
A Vision for Renewal in 2027
Reassuring residents that the country’s trajectory can be reversed, Obi emphasized that his joint ticket with running mate Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is fully equipped to rescue and unite the nation. He pledged heavy structural investments in education and healthcare, alongside targeted economic frameworks designed to lift millions out of poverty.
The NDC candidate also charged voters to remain vigilant, protect their ballots, and stay at their polling units until official results are declared during the upcoming 2027 general elections.
