Political momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections received a major boost in Jigawa State over the weekend as scores of members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The high-profile defection took place at the Garun Gabas Ward in Malam Madori Local Government Area during the inauguration of a grassroots campaign office for President Bola Tinubu.
The event was spearheaded by the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, who doubles as the National Coordinator and Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Tinubu Movement for Sustainable Governance (TMS).
Development Interventions Drive Defections
The defectors attributed their decision to cross over to the ruling party to visible development interventions and community improvements facilitated by the current federal administration. They specifically praised ICT and infrastructural projects executed through NITDA, noting that these initiatives have significantly elevated digital literacy and widened educational opportunities for youths in the area.
Alhaji Tanko Ahmad, the APC Chairman in Malam Madori Local Government Area, lauded the NITDA boss for facilitating digital infrastructure projects—such as the ICT Development Centre at the Government Secondary School, Garun Gabas—which he described as a game-changer for the community’s youth.
Grassroots Mobilization and Economic Continuity
The event drew a massive crowd of party chieftains, community leaders, women, and youths chanting “Tinubu Must Stay” along the streets.
Addressing the mammoth gathering, Abdullahi emphasized that the TMS movement is systematically expanding to the grassroots to enlighten citizens on the necessity of President Tinubu’s economic reforms. Drawing comparisons with nations like South Korea, Singapore, and Malaysia, he stressed that national prosperity relies heavily on the consistent, long-term implementation of reform policies.
”The essence of creating the TMS Movement is to go down to the grassroots level to enlighten citizens on President Tinubu’s reforms. He made it clear when he assumed office that economic diversification and inclusivity in attaining national prosperity are paramount to his reform agenda,” Abdullahi stated.
Empowerment and Community Support
As part of the movement’s ongoing social welfare interventions, the TMS National Coordinator announced an immediate empowerment initiative targeting another 200 women in Garun Gabas Ward. This follows a similar large-scale outreach in Hadejia, where vulnerable beneficiaries received financial grants, sewing machines, bakery equipment, and agricultural inputs.
The TMS Convener in Garun Gabas, Engineer Hashim Suleiman, expressed strong optimism over the widespread acceptance of the movement at the community level, urging beneficiaries to channel the support into productive micro-enterprises. Party leaders reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying grassroots mobilization across the state to guarantee a landslide victory for President Tinubu in 2027.
