WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump erupted into a furious personal tirade against a Reuters journalist on Thursday, launching explosive insults after being pressed over the sudden cancellation of high-profile midterm campaign rallies.
The fiery confrontation unfolded at Joint Base Andrews, just hours after the President and First Lady Melania Trump hosted children at the annual White House Halloween celebration. Refusing to let routine political scrutiny pass quietly, Trump turned a standard inquiry about his grueling travel schedule into a vicious attack on the reporter’s physique.
”You Are Disgusting”
The clash ignited when Reuters White House correspondent Jacob Bogage asked the President whether scaling back his packed itinerary—specifically scrapping planned appearances in Kansas and Iowa—stemmed from being “sick of traveling” or fatigue.
The question struck a raw nerve.
“Oh, you’re sick to ask that question. You are sick,” Trump snapped back. “Who are you with?”
Upon learning the question came from Reuters, Trump escalated his rhetoric, dismissing the news organization as “terrible” before turning his fire directly onto Bogage’s physical appearance.
- “Can you imagine, look at this dope, look at this guy, he’s way out of shape,” Trump blasted to the surrounding press pool.
- “I feel perfect. You are disgusting. Put yourself in shape. You look like hell.”
Defending the Midterm Strategy
Amid the verbal assault, Trump attempted to justify his decision to bypass the critical midterm campaign stops. He insisted that his physical presence in Kansas was entirely unnecessary because the local Republican candidate, Senator Roger Marshall, was already performing strongly on the ground.
“I’m not going to go to Kansas because he’s doing very well,” Trump argued, adding that he planned to connect via a remote tele-rally instead.
The sudden cancellation of key rallies in the heartland has fueled intense speculation across Washington regarding the physical demands placed on the 80-year-old president. Having already maintained a breakneck pace—churning out 25 rallies over the preceding month—Trump previously admitted that his body is feeling the strain, noting earlier in the week that “God didn’t make your vocal cords to do a rally every day.”
As the midterm elections loom closer, Thursday’s explosive tarmac exchange underscores the mounting pressure—and frayed tempers—inside the White House as the administration fights to retain momentum.
