A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, firmly shut the door on a fresh bail application by Lagos socialite and businessman Afolabi Michael Kazeem, popularly known as KC Luxury, who is standing trial over the alleged trafficking of 184.5 kilogrammes of cocaine valued at approximately ₦39 billion and related money-laundering offences.
Justice Musa Kakaki ruled that the defence failed to produce a medical certificate or sufficient evidence of special circumstances that would justify releasing the 49-year-old influencer on medical grounds. “There is no medical certificate to warrant the court to grant him bail,” the judge declared. “If there is special medical need for the first defendant, where a suspect claims an illness, an expert in the field would have given an explanation.”
While refusing bail, Justice Kakaki directed the Nigerian Correctional Service at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre to grant KC Luxury unrestricted access to doctors and medical specialists for any treatment he requires. He also ordered accelerated hearing of the case and adjourned proceedings until November 2, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
KC Luxury is facing a 22-count charge filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) alongside two co-defendants, Boniface Freeman Ochoche Sule and Ikechukwu Ekugo Patriarch. He is named in 21 of the 22 counts. All three pleaded not guilty when they were arraigned.
The charges stem from the interception of 184.5kg of cocaine on August 3, 2026, at a DHL facility within the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) premises in Ikeja, Lagos — described by the NDLEA as its largest cocaine seizure ever made through a courier company in Nigeria. The agency alleges the drugs were concealed in five consignments destined for London, United Kingdom, between July 28 and August 1, 2026, and shipped under the pseudonym “Yemi Ejide.”
According to the prosecution, KC Luxury conspired with Sule, Patriarch, and two others — Atandare Oladipupo Oluwarotimi and Latifat Yusuf, who were reportedly arrested in London — to export the narcotics. One count alleges that ₦13.2 million was paid from a Mallamawa Ventures Zenith Bank account to BOT Express Logistics in connection with the shipment.
Several other counts centre on alleged money laundering through multiple companies and personal accounts, including Mallamawa Ventures, Fateey Man Multi-Purpose Nigeria Limited, Patonifa Limited, Ade-Lak Resources, Holmestas Global Services Limited and La Capital Enterprises.
KC Luxury was arrested on the night of August 13, 2026, at the departure hall of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while allegedly attempting to board a business-class flight to Paris. Operatives recovered foreign currency and jewellery from him. A subsequent search of his Banana Island apartment yielded exotic vehicles and other assets the NDLEA claims are proceeds of the illicit trade.
This is not the first time the court has denied him bail. On October 2, Justice Kakaki rejected earlier applications by all three defendants, citing the gravity of the alleged offences, the severity of the potential punishment, the risk that the accused might abscond, and the growing menace of hard-drug trafficking in society.
The latest application was based on claims of ill-health. KC Luxury, who suffers from chronic asthma, had previously been brought to court on oxygen support after being hospitalised with asthma and sepsis. His lawyers argued he needed specialised treatment at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital. The judge, however, found the supporting medical evidence inadequate.
The case, which has drawn significant public attention because of KC Luxury’s high-profile social media presence as a luxury-goods dealer and influencer, will now proceed to full trial starting next week under an accelerated hearing schedule. All defendants remain in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service and are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
