WARRI — A media aide to the Delta State Governor, Ossai Ovie Success, has called for the immediate arrest of a social media user who alleged that a “festival of rape” took place in the Ekpan community of Uvwie Local Government Area.
The controversy erupted after a young woman posted claims on TikTok asserting that the illicit event had occurred in the area. The video quickly generated traction online, drawing widespread concern before catching the attention of state officials.
In a statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Ossai dismissed the allegations as entirely baseless, maintaining that preliminary investigations and local security checks confirmed no such incident took place. He accused the content creator of fabricating the narrative solely to chase clout and boost engagement on the video-sharing platform.
”This girl came out to lie to the public that there was a so-called Festival of Rape in Ekpan few days ago, but from all findings, NOTHING of such happened,” Ossai wrote. “It is clear she did it for TikTok content and clout. This is totally unacceptable.”
Insisting that the unverified claim severely damages the peace and reputation of the state, the governor’s aide urged law enforcement agencies to intervene. He argued that allowing individuals to propagate sensitive and damaging falsehoods unchecked sets a dangerous precedent.
”You cannot be using the name of Delta State to push false and damaging narratives just to trend. It tarnishes the image of our dear state,” he added, demanding that the poster be apprehended and compelled to substantiate her claims or face legal consequences.
As of the time of reporting, police authorities in the state have yet to issue an official statement regarding the arrest demand or the status of any ongoing investigations into the viral video.
