The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has said President Bola Tinubu should not be blamed solely for the widespread insecurity in the country .
Yari, who spoke during a visit to Kebbi State where he met with Governor Nasir Idris, traditional rulers and other party leaders in Birnin Kebbi, said former President Muhammadu Buhari, a retired general, did his best but could not tackle insecurity completely.
“If a retired general did his best but could not completely tackle insecurity, what do you expect of President Tinubu, who is not a general? Nevertheless, the President has done his utmost best to address the security challenges confronting the country,” he said .
Yari also urged Nigerians to reflect on their relationship with God, noting that addressing insecurity required collective responsibility alongside government efforts.
He pleaded with Nigerians to support the current administration, insisting that the economic hardship citizens face is not unique to the country .
On the economy, he said inflation had declined and fertiliser prices reduced, adding that the federal government was implementing measures to ease the burden on citizens, including cash transfers to vulnerable households .
WHY IT MATTERS
Yari’s argument is a political defence of the Tinubu administration’s security record, but it also raises uncomfortable questions. If a retired general could not end insecurity, what does that say about the nature of the crisis?
And if the solution is not military, what is it?ValidViewNetwork reports that Yari’s remarks are part of the APC’s broader campaign messaging ahead of 2027.
