The economic realities facing Nigeria have once again triggered fiery public discourse, with social media personality Isaac Fayose taking a swipe at supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Fayose asserted that even those actively defending President Bola Tinubu’s administration are grappling with severe financial distress.
In a trending video clip, Fayose recounted a recent online giveaway where he offered ₦1 million to internet users and asked interested individuals to drop their bank account credentials. According to him, the post drew an overwhelming response of over 10,000 comments from citizens seeking financial relief.
Among the respondents, Fayose claimed, was Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. To make a statement about the universal impact of the current economic climate, Fayose stated that he deliberately directed the ₦1 million cash prize to Olayinka.
”APC supporters are hungry too,” Fayose declared, questioning why loyalists of the ruling party would scramble for giveaways if government policies had successfully cushioned the populace from economic hardship.
He further emphasized that economic adversity does not discriminate based on political alignment. Pointing out that both government critics and defenders purchase fuel at identical market rates, patronize the same healthcare facilities, and contend with the exact same cost-of-living pressures, Fayose urged a more empathetic and realistic approach to addressing national challenges.
